Cheapest Intake Possible
Here is how to build the cheapest and simplest intake for your 1.6l Spec Miata.
- Go to Home Depot and find the gutter aisle.

- Buy this piece for $4.31

- Use tin snips or heavy duty scissors to cut it like so:

- It should look something like this:

- Now cut off most of the sides:

- After you’ve removed your airflow meter from the car, mark on the flange where the studs from the intake side of the meter will line up.

- Drill the holes with a 5/16″ bit. It’s going to catch once the bit “bites” so watch out.

- Holes are drilled, now it just needs to be cleaned up with a file.

- Not pretty, but it works!

- I attached our K&N Filter directly to the flange. Since it had a 3″ opening, I wrapped several layers of duct tape around the flange to make a tight fit. Total cost: Less than $40. So far so good!
